Answers to your questions about changes to our high school rowing programs

What's changing?

Until now, we have offered Milton High School Crew in spring, and rowed as Neponset Rowing Club in the fall. AS of Spring of 2023 all of our programs will be Neponset Rowing Club programs. Crew will no longer be an official sport of Milton High School, but MHS students will be able to row with Neponset Rowing Club in fall and spring seasons. Our organization will be known as the Neponset Rowing Club.

When will these changes happen?

Spring 2022 will be our final season rowing as MHS Crew. Spring of 2023 will be the first spring high school season in which we row as Neponset Rowing Club.

Will athletes from MHS be recognized by the school?

Milton High rowers will receive recognition from the school and enhanced recognition from the NRC as well, including a spring rowing awards banquet which parents will NOT have to cook! .
 

How will this impact racing?

As a club program, we will no longer compete in the MSPRA & NEIRA leagues. However, most of the regattas we race at are not for specific leagues , and we are able to participate in additional events that may offer a more competitive experience. Most youth rowing in the US is through clubs, not high school teams, and rowers will still have a very vibrant rowing experience.

What about college applications?

MHS will still note participation on the student's record and NRC coaches will support college applications as they always have. Most youth rowers in the US row on club teams and there should be no impact for rowers, other than more competitive rowing experiences and full-year team development should help to improve statistics college coaches pay attention to.

How will the program benefit?

Today, students in private school or other local public schools who want to row two seasons opt for other programs which often charge more and require long commutes. As some of these rowers join the NRC instead, and the entire team trains and rows together Spring and Fall, we believe our rowers will find a higher level of personal and team accomplishment.
 

What about uniforms?

We will switch to new NRC uniforms in Fall of 2022. Look for more information to come.
